Please see all of the photographs and read the complete description. Both the images and text are considered a full disclosure of condition.ARTHUR OSBORNE ( 1855 - 1942 ) Born in Ospringe, a village near Faversham, England, Osborne emigrated to America in 1878. He worked for the J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Company in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and became the chief designer and modeler for the award-winning company before returning to England to form his own company ( Osborne Ivorex ) in 1898.
Osborne carved highly detailed scenes into clay which were used as masters to make molds for his plaster of paris 3-D creations. After detailed painting, the plaques were dipped in paraffin wax. They were buffed to a dull sheen giving them a distinctive \"ivory\" finish. After Arthur Osborne\'s death in 1942, his daughter, Blanche, managed to continue production, but the company would close its doors in 1965.Although copyrighted, the products were copied by others and several imitations can be found on the market today. Most will not show the trademark initials \"A.O.\" etched in the front, or sometimes they have paper labels denoting the true makers name on the back.THE EDINBURGH CASTLE AND THE NATIONAL GALLERY: The Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress dominating the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position on the Castle Rock. There has been a royal castle on the rock since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the site continued to be a royal residence until 1633. Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts from the War\'s of Scottish Independence in the 14th century to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Many restorations have taken place from the mid-Victorian period HOLYROOD PALACE AND ARTHUR\"S SEAT: Located at the bottom of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, at the opposite end to Edinburgh Castle. The palace served as the principal residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 16th century. Queen Elizabeth spends one week in residence at Holyrood Palace at the beginning of each summer. The 16th century Historic Apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots and the State Apartments are used for official entertaining. They are open to the public, except when members of the Royal Family are in residence.ARTHUR\'S SEAT: Is the main peak of the group of mountains in Edinburgh that form most of Holyrood Park. THE PAIR OF RELIEFS: The overall size of the Edinburgh Castle early wood frame is 17 7/8\" W x 13 7/8\" H x 2\"D. The cast itself measures 11\"W x 7\"H. It weighs 5.13 pounds. The overall frame for the Holyrood Palace measures 17 1/2\"W x 13 5/8\" H x 2\"D. The cast itself measures 10 5/8\"W x 6 7/8\"H. It weighs 5.7 pounds. CONDITION: Each of these reliefs are in excellent condition. Osborne\'s trademark initials \"AO\" appear at the lower left of the Holyrood piece, and the lower right of the Edinburgh Castle piece. Both are matted in an antique velvet. Both of the wood frames show use and age marks. There are small chips to three corners of the castle frame, and a larger one on the upper right corner. ( See the next to last photograph ). The Holyrood wood frame has chips to each of the three corners that are a tiny bit larger than the three on the castle frame. This frame too has a larger chip on the upper right corner similar to the castle frame. The back sides show very old taping, and the overall backs have heavy paper stapled to them. The Holyrood Palace frame back also has remnants of a more recent taping. The work seems a little loose in this frame, and apparently this was done to stabilize it. ( This can be seen in the last photograph ). SHIPPING: Both of these items will be individually packaged and boxed before packing them in a single box together. They will ship to any of the lower 48 US States via USPS parcel select ground with tracking and insurance. 4 pounds will be added to the weight to allow for protective packaging and boxing. ( 14.83 pounds total shipping weight ). Please see the shipping details and enter your zip code to determine the shipping charges to your area.
