2 Vintage 1970s Authentic Mexican Palm Leaf/Straw Adult Size Sombreros:

You are offerding on two (2) vintage, authentic Mexican palm leaf/straw adult size sombreros.The sombreros were made at a sombrero factory near Puebla, Mexico in the early 1970s. The owner of the sombreros student taught in Puebla, Mexico in 1972. The sombreros were a gift from her Mexican host family. These sombreros were not made for the tourist industry. They do not have chip straps.

Sombrero #1:

22\" x 22\" measured straight across and top to bottom (top surface of sombrero)

24\" x 23 3/4\" measured straight across and top to bottom (bottom surface of sombrero)

7 1/4\" x 8\" measured straight across and top to bottom (crown opening)

6 1/4\" depth of crown

23\" circumference

6 1/2\" height of crown (measured from top surface of brim to top of crown)

Sombrero #2:

21 1/2\" x 21 1/2\" measured straight across and top to bottom (top surface of sombrero)

23 1/2\" x 23 1/2\" measured straight across and top to bottom (bottom surface of sombrero)

7 3/4\" x 7 3/4\" measured straight across and top to bottom (crown opening)

6 1/2\" depth of crown

23\" circumference

6 1/2\" height of crown (measured from top surface of brim to top of crown)

All measurements are approximates due to pliability of the palm leaf/straw. The approximate measurements may be different once the sombreros are packaged for shipment.

Both sombreros have a thin leather/leatherite decorative hat band with, I believe, a golden eagle design on the front and back of the hat band. The golden eagle is the national bird of Mexico.The tops of the hat bands have a scalloped pattern. The interiors of the sombreros have no linings or tags.

One sombrero is in very good pre-owned condition.Notears or holes. There may be some surface wear and tear and discoloration/soiling to the palm leaf/straw. The thin leather/leatherite hat band has noticeable wear and tear and some fading. Some of the scalloped pattern to the hat band is bent or has been cut offand some of the golden eagle feathers are missing (refer to photos # 7 and 8).

The second sombrero is in good pre-owned condition.No holes. Therearethree (3)tears the largest of which isapproximately 6 inches long (refer to photo # 11).The other two tears are approximately 4 incheslong(refer to photo # 12) and 1 1/2 inches long.The tears appear to bealong sewing seams. A good sewer/seamstress could probably repair the tears without problems. There may be some surface wear and tear and discoloration/soiling to the palm leaf/straw. The thin leather/leatherite hat band has noticeable wear and tear and some fading. Some of the scalloped pattern to the hat band is bent or has been cut off; some of the golden eagle feathers are missing (refer to photos # 9 and 10).

The sombreros were stacked on top of one another ona lower level woodenstorage shelf. The sombreros do not have any foul odors.

The sombreros are being sold from a smoke free Environment with cats.
