2 Vintage 1960\'s Comedy/Tragedy Life Size Halloween Masks-- Hard Cardboard Composite

2 Vintage Comedy/Tragedy Life Size Halloween Masks-- Hard Cardboard Composite have been in my Antique and Vintage Halloween Collection for over 30 years. These Comedy/Tragedy Life SizeMasksdepict a great design that originates from ancient Greece.

These 2 mask are in good condition for their age and they are very durable and made of thick composite cardboard and have a significant weight to them. There is some wear from usage.Both masks have a very unusual unique look and character that have a very old looking vintage character.They aremade of a heavy dutycomposite cardboardpaper.Both of the masks have existing holes on each cornerfor attaching a string or elasticstring for wearing or attaching as a wall decoration.

The Comedy mask measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide by 8 inches long. The Tragedy Mask measures approximately 8 1/2 inches long by 8 inches wide.

These two masks are very complimentarytogether and can be worn to Halloween Parties. Masquerades, Balls or they are excellent as wall decorations and/or used in your Halloween Displays. These masks are great as costume wear and will make a fabulous addition to your antique and vintage Halloween Mask Collection or to your Halloween Displays.

History of Comedy/Tragedy Masks

These two masks--comedy and tragedy masks originated as the symbols forDrama--THEATRE that comes from ancient Greece around 500 - 300 BC. where modern day theater came from.

In ancient Greece, masks conveyed a kind of static emotion that created an atmosphere very different than our modern theater. The masks and dress were usually highly stylized and exaggerated making the characters easy to identify even from a great distance.

In ancient Greece, theater plays were performed outdoors in daylight to audiences of 10,000 or more at festivals in honor of Dionysus. Masks played an important role in Greek drama. They gave the actors the ability to easily play more than one character in succession with a simple change of mask.
