Many of you know us as longtime collectors andsellers of vintage and antique Hallowe\'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day andEaster holiday memorabilia, antique dolls, old toys and lovely old china andglassware. We are often given the honor of selling fine and rare pieces forother collectors. Our favorite season of autumn is HERE! It is time for falling leaves, cracklingfires, cool crisp evenings, and warm apple cider! If you love Hallowe\'en allyear-round as we do, or if you are looking for the perfect holiday gift for theHallowe\'en enthusiast in your life, here is a SPOOKtacular opportunity! We are proud to present a WICKEDLY wonderful black cat boy and girl couple. These two havebeen together since manufacture!They were made in Germany in the 1920s or 1930s and they are BIG! They measure19 ½” high x 8” wide. They are made from thick, heavily-embossed cardboard orpressed paper pulp and were painted in outstanding colors of oldbrownish-orange, black and ivory white, and awesome green metallic paint wasused to accent their eyes. Please meet Chester and Chelsea. Both have their original cardboard easelsattached to the back which makes these two “stand-ups” and makes decorating withthem a breeze. They are both embossed Germany and they are also stamped Made inGermany on the reverse sides. The number 20 is written on both reverse sides which indicates that these kitties were originally sold for a whopping 20 cents, probably at one of those great old five-and-ten-cent stores that many of usmiss to this day. We adore the happy albeit slightly scary countenance of thesetwo, with smiling mouths open to expose oh-so-sharp and pointed teeth. Chester stands casually posed with paws in pockets and Chelsea stands coyly withpaws behind her. Both have six-pointed stars decorating their costumes, and weparticularly love Chester’s dapper bow tie and jaunty cap with feather.

They display beautifully and we love that they havebeen together for their entire lives. Their exact condition is as follows: bothhave a little soiling commensurate with their age. Both original hanging holesplaced at the top show no wear and appear to be unpunched. There are no majorbends or creases whatsoever. So often these large diecuts will have creases totheir legs. These two have none, although Chester has a little give to one. Thereis a little crackling to their paint, also commensurate with their elderly ageand the many All Hallows\' Eves these two have seen. There are two areas toChelsea’s feet that have been touched-up by their one and only owner. Chester has some very light surfaceloss at the top probably from tape. Their metallic green eyes are inoutstanding condition. So often when metallic green paint was used it was thefirst area to show wear. Chester’s eyes are in a BOOOtiful shade ofgreenish-blue, while Chelsea’s are silver-green. A black cat couple just like these two can be seen on page 174 of theoutstanding reference book entitled “Vintage Halloween Collectibles: ThirdEdition” by esteemed collector, expert and author Mark B. Ledenbach. We are sodeeply honored and grateful that Mark invited us to showcase some of the piecesfrom our collection in this incredible book! These two incredible pieces of Hallowe\'en history would be ideal for those who –as we do – love decorations from the Golden Age of Hallowe\'en. They are awonderful example of the craftsmanship of the European designers and paperartisans of pre-WWII Germany. We think they would be the ideal acquisition for anyonewho loves to decorate with authentic Hallowe\'en memorabilia and / or for thecollection of the Hallowe\'en enthusiast.
