Istanbul Gold Refinery

IGR (Istanbul Gold Refinery- Istanbul Altin Rafinerisi) was founded in 1996 with the support of the Turkish Government Treasury and the newly formed Istanbul Gold Exchange (Istanbul Altin Borsasi). The major shareholders consisted of a group of leading Turkish banks. One of the government’s key objectives in crating the IGR was to encourage the public to deposit more of their family gold savings (estimated at 5000 metric tons in Turkey) with financial institutions. Family gold savings are typically held at home in the form of coins and jewelry, but this need to be converted to standard bullion to be sold or deposited to financial institutions.

Istanbul Gold Refinery, entering as the first official gold refinery in Istanbul Gold Exchange and Turkish Treasury gold refineries list, also acquired accreditation in the Dubai Gold Exchange, the “heart of gold” of Central Asia in 2007. For ensuring a continuous progress and having a say in the global refinery sector, Istanbul Gold Refinery will maintain its activities as a firm developing itself and its solution partners, and conducting sensitive studies along with needs of its Environment.

Definition of Karat;

Karat, also spelled Carat, a measure of the fineness (i.e., purity) of gold. It’s spelled carat outside of United States, but should not be confused with the unit used to measure the weight of gems, also called carat. A gold karat is 1/24 part, or 4.1667 percent, of the whole, and the purity of gold alloy is expressed as the number of these parts of gold it contains. Thus, an object that contains 16 parts gold and 8 parts alloying metal is 16 karat gold, and pre gold is 24-karat gold.

Gold Quality;

Gold’s purity is measured in karats. The term “karat” harks back to the ancient bazars where “carob” beans were used to weigh precious metals. 24 karat is pure gold, but is purity means it is more expensive and less durable than gold that is alloyed with other metals. The karatage of the jewelry will tell you what percentage of gold it contains; 24 karat is 100 percent, 18 karat is 75 percent, and 14 karat is 58 percent gold. When comparing gold jewelry, the higher the number of karats, the greater the value.
