This 2009 (MMIX) $20 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle was awarded the impressive grade of MS69 by NGC and is certified Early Releases. This UHR $20 Gold Double Eagle is simply breathtaking. The devices are crisply struck, and fully-articulated. The Ultra High Relief strike creates an almost three dimensional effect that makes the devices stand out beautifully from the deep, semi-reflective satiny fields.

To show off the technological advances of the minting process, the U.S. Mint released the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle. Using Augustus St Gaudens’ design for the 1907 Double Eagle, with some slight modifications, the U.S. Mint was able to produce the Gold coin the way it was originally intended. This 1 ounce coin was struck in 24-Karat Gold and is one of the most beautiful coins ever produced in U.S. Mint history.

Early Release coins are produced using the first dies forged by the Mint for a particular series. Use of these first dies typically result in a higher quality strike and finer details. A coin must be proven to have been released by the Mint within the first 30 days of issue in order to be designated Early Release. Only a limited quantity of coins will be classified Early Release during any production run, making them prized among collectors and investors for their increased scarcity and added beauty.
