This beautiful 5 oz. silver coin pays tribute to Glacier National Park, one of the most unique parks found in America.
The coin contains 5 oz. of .999 fine silver.
The obverse displays a portrait of George Washington originally designed by John Flanagan, with the inscriptions of United States of America, Liberty, In God We Trust, and Quarter Dollar.
In 2010, the United States Mint launched the America The Beautiful Quarter series, the mint’s first ever 5 ounce coin, and their largest silver bullion coin to date.
Unlike the reeded edge of the normal quarter coins in circulation, the America The Beautiful Silver bullion coins have a smooth edge inscribed with the coin specifications \".999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE.\"
The reverse features an image of a bison in front of Reynolds Mountain, behind a mountain goat, the park\'s symbol, surrounded by \"Glacier,\" \"Montana,\" \"E Pluribus Unum,\" and the date.
Glacier National Park, on the U.S.-Canadian border, gained federal protected status Feb. 22, 1897 and consists of more than a million acres. With more than 7,000 feet of elevation variance across the park, there is a wide range of climates and microclimates, adding to the variety of plants and animals that can be found in the park.
