This year’s issue of the proof silver Britannia from the Royal Mint features an all new, brilliant design! Engraved on the reverse is an image of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. The artist has also added various nautical elements, such as a sea on the background and a ship on the horizon. The design on the reverse of this proof struck coin can clearly be seen for all of its beauty and detail. Britannia is engraved on this reverse, yet unique from the traditional image, is shown as a close-up from the side. In her left hand she holds her shield embossed with the Union Jack, and with her right she rests her trident over her shoulder. The sea is seen in the background of this coin, and an extremely detailed image of a masted ship at full sail is seen on the horizon. Around the design is inscribed the words “5oz FINE SILVER 999 2015.” This masterpiece was created specifically for this 2015 proof silver Britannia coin by artist and sculptor Antony Dufort.

Flip the coin around, and a highly intricate effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II can be seen on the obverse. This is a portrait by Jody Clark, a British engraver employed by the Royal Mint. Inscribed around the design are the words “10 POUNDS,” “Elizabeth II,” “D.G. Reg,” “F.D.,” and the initials of the artist, “J.C.”
