7-String Archtop GuitarThis stunning 7-string archtop sounds even better than it looks! Created by guitar-building instructor K.Weiner in Bethlehem PA, this prototype incorporates some uncommon features that let it produce a louder, more even tone. The top and back are hand carved from solid Sitka spruce and east Indian rosewood. The traditional F-holes are replaced by the smaller holes in the upper bout, plus a side port. This leaves the lower bout free to vibrate as a complete diaphragm for better projection at a wider range of frequencies. The tone bars are carved I-beams of torrified spruce, and are used to both tune the top and provide extra strength for the added string load. The end result is unmatched sonic performance. Player comments: \"Masterful\" -- Grammy-nominated guitarist, Frank DiBussolo.
\"Brilliant\" -- Pink Floyd alumnus, Andy Roberts.
\"Punchy\" -- Seven-string master, Howard Alden.Go here http://youtu.be/sb8bcAsriMg to see Howard Alden playing this instrument during a concert in 2016. Due to an oversight, the guitar was unplugged at the time, so you are hearing mostly direct acoustic sound being picked up by an iPhone across the room. As you can hear, the 7-string held its own against the other guitar, which was directly miked. But the builder doesn\'t stop at great sound, which is a given, and believes the instrument should also take your breath away visually. So the instrument incorporates rare and expensive snakewood for the fretboard, head plate, finger rest, bridge, and tailpiece. Top purfling is zebrawood, giving the look of fine marquetry, with grained ivoroid binding. The neck is black limba with a cherry center strip that continues through the back. The headstock back plate is rosewood, complementing the striking Schaller Da Vinci tuners. An adjustable truss rod plus carbon fiber rods create a highly stable neck. The guitar is outfitted with a Kent Armstrong Smooth Sam pickup, tune-o-matic saddle for fine intonation adjustment, and an internal K&K piezo pickup for a natural acoustic sound. Both outputs are available separately at the stereo end jack (splitter cable included). Tone and volume control for the magnetic pickup, as well as piezo volume, are provided via thumb wheel controls under the finger rest. Includes hard shell case. The builder is an instructor in the luthier program at the Northampton Community College Fab Lab in Bethlehem, PA, one of the premier labs of its kind in the country, blending old world craftsmanship and leading edge manufacturing technologies.
