DESCRIPTION:

This listing is for a lovely antique china shoulder head doll by German maker incised \"BERTHA\", late 1890s+. These shoulder heads were made for Butler Brothers by several German firms including Hertwig. These dolls are often called \"Pet Name\" china heads because they have molded first names on the front shoulder plates. Her molded bodice decoration includes a molded collar with a tie and the name BERTHA\" and they are hand painted trim in gold. This shoulder head needs gold paint touch up on her name, the color has worn away. The back of the shoulder plate is labeled “PATENT APP’D FOR GERMANY.\" I notice a faint \"hairline\" from back of her hair to the collar, see photo #5 please. This shoulder head is all together intact but need to mention this. This head measures about 7\" tall from the front. She is a china shoulder head with porcelain arms, fingers intact, hard cloth body (has the feel of being sawdust filled), no leakage, she has Fancy molded painted green porcelain boots. \"Bertha\" has a \"lovely\" face, a slightly turned shoulder head with painted blue eyes, black liner over the eye lid with coral liner over the back liner, no lower eye liner, she has long black brows and closed mouth. There is a faint little dimple in her chin. Pink luster blush accents her white china face. She has molded painted black wavy hair. \"Bertha\" wears velvet jacket with lace trim with only stick pin closure down the back. Her long black skirt has a snap at the waist but is \"melting\" throughout on the side, see photos. You may wish to replace her skirt or do a little sewing restoration. There is an attached black slip under this area that is not torn. She is wearing antique pantaloons and top. Enjoy \"Bertha\" as she is or go for a little clothing restoration!
