The Works of Flavius Josephus, Translated into English by Sir Roger L\'Estrange. 2 Vols, Complete.America [Philadelphia]: Printed for the Subscribers, 1774. This is a rare piece of Americana, being a first American edition set of the Works of Flavius Josephus, considered a cornerstone Christian and Hebrew work. OCLC locates several holdings, but this set appears to be very scarce on the market. The title page lists publishing location as \'America\', as was often the case for books from this period, though these were very likely published in Philadelphia. Both volumes in 8vo form; paginating 502,506, w/ Indices. Bound in worn original calf, some wear to spine on volume I. Spines with raised bands, some rounding to the edges as well. Hinges intact. Title page from Vol I is lacking. The title page of Volume II is loose but present. There are numerous pagination errors throughout both volumes, as issued, but textually set is complete with no missing pages. Pages a bit grubby and soiled, with numerous small closed tears to margins. Lacking EPs, and with occasional ink notations throughout, but a solid and scarce set nonetheless.
