FOR SALE

Using parts by Bassett-Lowke and/or Carson,  4-4-2,  3-1/4” gauge.  Prototype is probably NBR Class H/LNER Class 10/11.  It was purchased at an antique store in the UK around 1985.

We will ship overseas, however the buyer will select the carrier, and pay for the shipping.  Our free shipping offer applied to the Lower 48 only.

As for who built the engine, I can’t find a nameplate or label stating Bassett-Lowke, but there is a photo of an identical 7.5” gauge loco in the B-L book.  We are told by the B-L Society that B-L built several 3.25” locos for clients during the 1920’s.  A member of the B-L Society recognizes several of the components as made by Carson, and Carson did manufacture locos for B-L in between the World Wars.  Other parts are B-L.  If you can assist in the accurate identification of the builder, please contact us with your information.  It will be much appreciated.

It’s not been steamed in at least 15 years, but all seems to turn easily and smoothly.  About 12 years ago it was hooked to an air compressor, and it turned over smoothly.

Known minor and repairable flaws include the following:  The cylinder covers are missing.  One tire has a chip in the flange, as does the smokestack.  There are several springs and nuts and screws missing, including the drive rod to crank pin retainer on one side.  There is no water piping or hose from the tender to the locomotive.  The hand pump seems like it is missing a piece.  Some of the buffers are sprung, some are rigid.  It has a slight rake from front to rear of the locomotive, about 1/8”, that I suspect is from a missing spring.  The pilot deck plate has a small crack.  It can use a re-paint as well.

It is located in the Twin Cities area.  You are welcome to contact me to arrange a personal viewing.

Please hold your payment until the packaging and insured shipping cost to your location is calculated, and an invoice is emailed to you.  Thanks.
