Unique one of a kind Vinyl 45 record and original sleeve with 3 authenticated autographs of Mercury Astronaut Virgil I "Gus" Grissom. The paper sleeve has the signature: Virgil I Grissom. The 45 record has two autographs: Virgil I Grissom on one side, and V I Grissom on the other. All autographs are written in pen and have been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
This rare artifact was discovered at an estate sale inside a newspaper souvenir edition packet from the Mitchell Tribune once located in Mitchell Indiana. The souvenir edition contain 2 newspapers and a color fold out and sold for .25 cents. The 45 record was specially made recordings titled: Salute To The First Astronauts on one side, and Tribute To Virgil I. Grissom on the other. The 45 was produced by the WSLM Salem radio station in Salem Indiana for the Virgil I Grissom homecoming held on June 16 1962 and originial sold for $1.00.
Authenticated Virgil I Grissom autographs are much in demand after his accidental training death in 1967. Making the availability to sign his name as a Astronaut for only 7 years. Gus's signature can often be found on NASA letters, Checks, postcards, photo's and other items demanding premium price for one signature which are not even authenticated. Most NASA collectibles are only signed once or with some other Astronaut, or signed with Auto pen or secretarial. But to find an item such as this 45 record where Gus personally handled three times and wrote his signature and then to have all three authenticated makes this a truly rare and unique item.
Now that being said, one can only speculate how this rare item ended up being signed three times. And that may always be a mystery. All signatures have been authenticated by the leading authentication company PSA/DNA of New Port Beach California and paperwork will be send with the record when purchased. The Certification numbers are: X04469 and X04468 if you would like to have them checked out with PSA/DNA.
