This soapstone jar is carved with a star design on top of the lid and a pattern around the sides. The surface is smooth and polished on the outside, with a natural but smooth feel on the inside. Expect some slight variations of textures because this is real stone. This lovely soapstone jar is nice beause it has many functions. You can use this jar to burn your favorite cone or dhoop stick incense and watch as the incense vents through the sides and lid. Or you can use this beautiful stone jar as a keepsake for small jewelry, earrings or coins. For the best results, I find that filling the burner 3/4 with raw rice, sand, or aquarium rock, then placing the cone onto the rice using the metal disc burner as a flat surface is best. The metal disc burners sometimes come included within packs of incense, this varies by manufacturer, but always come with SAC brand cones. Read more instructions below.
How to Burn with Cone Incense
Light the tip of the cone with a match, candle or lighter. Allow the flame to burn for about 15 seconds until the tip is glowing red. You may need to light it a few times to get it going. After 15 seconds have elapsed, or when you have a glowing red tip, blow out the cone and allow to smolder. For the best results, I find that filling the burner 3/4 with raw rice, sand, or aquarium rock, then placing the cone onto the rice using the metal disc burner as a flat surface is best. The metal disc burners sometimes come included within packs of incense, this varies by manufacturer, but always come with SAC brand cones. Please do not touch the lit incense cones with your fingers as you will burn yourself. Place the lid back onto the burner and enjoy. Always allow the cone to completely exhaust itself, and come to cool before throwing discarding it. When in doubt, dowse the remains in water before placing in the trash can.
What if the Cones Don\'t Burn Properly?
Since all cones are made a bit differently, some thicker or thinner, and others are more dense, each cone may burn slightly differently. If you find the brand of cones, or even cones of the same brand, go out while burning when the lid is on try leaving the lid off altogether. Or try filling the bottom section of the burner 3/4 way with raw rice and place the lit cone onto the rice bed of rice, and put the lid on. By raising the cone it brings it closer to where the air circulates allowing it burn better with more air supply. You might also want to try lighting the incense cone for a longer period, and allow it to smolder a bit longer before placing it into the burner.
How to Burn Dhoop Sticks
Fill the burner 3/4 the way with raw rice, sand or aquarium rocks. Use only nonflammable materials. Lite the dhoop stick and insert it deep enough into the rice so that it stands on its own. Depending on how tall the dhoop sticks are you may be able to close the lid, but if they are too tall and dhoop stick touches the lid then you\'ll need to burn without the lid or remove some of the rice. The closer the dhoop incens stick is to the air flow the better it will burn. Always allow the incense to completely exhaust itself, and come to cool before throwing discarding it. When in doubt, dowse the remains in water before placing in the trash can.
