Description:
This GORGEOUS 16-inch vinyl portrait doll of Marilyn Monroe from the Franklin Mint recreates the memorable night of Saturday, May 19, 1962 when Marilyn arrived a little late to the party and sang \"Happy Birthday, Mr. President\" to President John F. Kennedy at a Madison Square Garden celebration of his 45th birthday (ten days before his actual birth date of May 29). Monroe\'s performance was memorable for several reasons (like her very provocative dress and super sultry voice), but sadly also because it was one of her very last major public appearances before her death less than 3 months later on August 5, 1962.
Marilyn\'s dress was noted for being made of a sheer and flesh-colored marquisette fabric, with 2,500 shimmering rhinestones sewn into it. The dress was so tight-fitting that Monroe had difficulty putting it on; and she wore nothing under it. It was designed by Jean Louis. Peter Lawford, who introduced Marilyn at the event, made a play on her reputation for tardiness by giving her a number of introductions throughout the night, after which (of course) she did not appear on stage. When Marilyn finally appeared in a spotlight, Lawford introduced her as the \"late Marilyn Monroe\". She peeled off her white ermine fur coat, revealing the dress, and the audience gasped.
Monroe sang the traditional \"Happy Birthday To You\" lyrics in a sexy, throaty, & intimate voice, with \"Mr. President\" inserted as Kennedy\'s name. Afterward, Kennedy came on stage for the presentation of a giant birthday cake and joked about her performance of the song, saying \"I can now retire from politics after having had Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way,\" alluding to Marilyn\'s song delivery, skintight dress, and image as a sex symbol.
Recreate that momentous night with this AWESOME Marilyn Monroe 16\" tall vinyl portrait doll from the Franklin Mint wearing a reproduction of that infamous dress with silver high-heel sandals and rhinestone studded dangle earrings. The seller also added a fur wrap (with hook-n-eye closure in front) that has a slight resemblance to the ermine fur coat that Marilyn wore to the event that night over her practically transparent skin-tight dress.
