This is a set of 4 irons. They are antique painted / coated shafts.

Here is a brief history on coated shafts:

By the early 1900s, new manufacturing processes made steel shaft clubs more common. Despite this, the United States Golf Association declared them illegal to use. Even with appeals in 1911 and 1913, the steel shaft was not permitted on professional courses. The USGA finally made them legal to use in competition in 1926.

So, the manufacturers painted, or coated them to make them look like wooden shafts, so they would be more appealing for the people that didn\'t like the change to metal.

The clubs are Burke Flangiron Model 844. The set includes a 2 iron,5 iron,7 iron and9 iron.

They are in VERY good shape for their age. The leather grips are in very good condition, no rips or tears. The shafts are in very good conditionalso, there is no chips or cracks, with the exception of the 7 iron - it has one little chip close to the head, but all in all the shafts look very good. The heads look very nice also, just normal wear from use. The clubs, as a whole, look very good right now.
