Up for sale is ahard-to-find set of4ruby redsmall tumblersmade by the Paden CityGlass Manufacturing Company in Paden City, West Virginia. The patternis called\"Penny Line\" (#991),an Art Deco influenceddesign of concentric stacked ringsintroduced in 1932.Each of these small \"wine tumblers\" measures between 2 9/16\" and 2 11/16\" tall. Two of thetumblers are slightly darker and slightly taller than the others. The collector book lists these small tumblers as \"wine tumblers\", but they could also be considered shot glasses. They have a capacity of approximately2 1/2 ounces. The Penny Linepattern is illustrated on page 175 in the book \"Collectors\'s Encyclopedia of Depression Glass, 17th Edition\" by Gene and Cathy Florence.The wine tumbleris listed with a 2006book value of $12(total value of $48 for the set).I purchased these tumblersat a recentestate sale that had manyhard-to-find elegant glass items.They areguaranteed to bevintage Paden City tumblersandnotmodern reproductions. Condition of these Paden City Penny Line wine tumblersis EXCELLENT with no chips or cracks. The top rimshave some tiny indentations that are original to production. The ground bottom rims on several tumblers also have some minor roughness along the edges. Overall, these tumblerslook fantastic andwouldmake a fine addition to any elegant glass collection.
