4 Small Plates made by Scammell’s Trenton China - Vintage Restaurant Ware:

At sale are 4 small plates made by Scammell’s Trenton China. The pattern is similar to “Symphony” but I could not come up with an exact match. The backstamps say simply SCAMMELL’S TRENTON CHINA MADE IN AMERICA in red or green and SCAMMELL’S TRENTON CHINA is impressed as well. They measure 6-3/8 inches in diameter and weigh from 9-1/8 ounces to 9 ¾ ounces. They are in vintage condition - no chips or cracks but plenty of utensil marks, scratches and wear and tear. There are manufacturing flaws too – decoration errors, spots, pits, bumps, waves and runs in the glazing, also the holder marks on the backs. I was not able to definitively date them but I believe they may be from very early on. According to my research, the Scammell China Company operated out of the Lamberton Works in Trenton, New Jersey from 1924 to1954. Thank you for looking!
