DESCRIPTION:A rare find and most exquisite frock! This would be one earliest dresses of the queen of California high end fashion, Emma Domb, late 30s or early 40s.This dress is missingthe label, but I have the exact matching bridesmaid\'s dress with the label.Even more unique is thefact thatthe dress is part of a wedding ensemble. Emma Domb was a California dressmaking company that was active from 1939 through the 70s. Domb Manufacturing Company was owned by Emma Domb and Lorraine Domb Steinberg. They specialized in wedding, party and prom dresses, and were also known for fancy date ensembles. They were headquartered in San Francisco.
The dress is incredibly well tailored and fashioned of two layers of a white mesh net and an underlayer of shimmery, swishy white taffeta. The top layer of the net is open at the front center.There are boxy, stiff hip panniers to give that exaggerated confection frock effect of theMarie Antoinette era (these are now pressed now and need to be expanded). The bodice is tightly fitted.A layer of sheer organdy at the top creates an illusion neckline and long sheer \'v\' point sleeves with elbow and hem darts,which snap closed.A dropped wide collar of the same material is finished with large satin daisy like flowers with cut outcenters; these repeat on either side of the mesh net opening at the front center of the skirt. Even the tailoring for the side metal zipper in incredible.Adramatic veil with net and wax pearl beading in a sunburst patterncomplete the ensemble.I have a few more photos if you would like to see them.
