Description: This sale is for a great lot of memorabilia from the 8th World Scout Jamboree which took place on August 18-28, 1955. This is an extremely rare collection put together by someone who attended the Jamboree. Individually these items sell for much, much more. Check it out.
The Jamboree was held at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, 14miles north of Niagara Falls. This was the first Jamboree held outside ofEurope. 11,162 Scouts from 68 countries and territories (some sources say 71) camped together on thecommons of Fort George National Historic Site. Lady Baden-Powell; LordRowallan, Chief Scout of the British Empire; Vincent Massay, Governor Generalattended the opening ceremony. Theme was “New Horizons”. A rare piece of Boy Scouts memorabilia.
The collection includes 20 items, among them:
* 27\"-long felt pennant,
* Jamboree\'s Souvenir Program,
* Original \"New Horizons\" patch,
* Jamboree Guide, Vocabulary and Diary,
* Unused official Jamboree stationary and envelopes,
* Souvenir issue of Hi-Sign, official newspaper of the Jamboree published by Coca-Cola,
* Canadian postage stamps issued in commemoration of the Jamboree,
* Postcards of the Canadian Mounted Police (one used, one unused),
* Boy Scout Special Meal Tickets,
* Patches of Canadian Scout troops attending the Jamboree, collected by trading with their members. This is a traditional custom at Jamborees and other Scout gatherings where Scouts from other states or countries attend.
