(3) Silver Walker Halves,Peacock Ore from Kazakhstan, and Gold bearing ore from over 5600 ft. atop the Sierra Nevada’s near La Porte. My coins are never searched for any numismatic value because I am not a coincollector, I acquired most of them through estate sales solely for their silver content. “The Tertiary gravels of the Northern Sierra are legendary for their rich pockets of gold and prospectors have sought after them ever since they were first discovered in the mid 1800s. This mining district is located in southwesternPlumasCounty, which is about 25 miles south ofQuincyand about 50 miles north of Oroville. Historically, the La Porte Mining District was the greatest of the placer mining districts in the state ofCalifornia. The ore bodies contain free gold, pyrite, and minor galena and chalcopyrite. The ore shoots often were large (up to 300 feet long and several thousand feet deep.) and usually averaged1/3 to 1/2 ounce of gold per ton.Much high grade ore was taken from the district. Several fairly extensive magnetic deposits are found in the north end of the district.”
