Colonel Brown was a gallant officer who fought in some of the most horrific battles of the Civil War. This extraordinary book, written by his daughter with the help of materials provided by Confederates that served with Colonel Brown, contains excellent material not available elsewhere.This book is organized into two parts. Part I contains The Life and Character of Colonel Joseph Newton Brown with Correspondence of 1861-1862, and Papers by Colonel Brown on South Carolinians at Gettysburg and at the bloody Angle at Spotsylvania. Part II: Contains first hand accounts on the Battle of Gettysburg and the Battle at Spotsylvania. The book includes several photographs and two, foldout maps. THE BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE - CONDITION This original, first edition, book is in excellent overall condition. It comes in the original, blue dust jacket with black lettering that is protected in a clear, Brodart cover. The book is clean, sharp, and bright. It is in fine condition except that it some discoloration to the edge of the book. The book has solid binding throughout; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine. The gold spine lettering is exceptionally sharp and bright. The exterior has no bumping, rubbing or discernible edge wear. xvi, 333 pages. The original, dust jacket (uncommon with this book) is clean with aging and some chipping. An excellent account of this important Confederate Colonel and the 14th South Carolina Infantry.
