A desirable 18th century English saltglazed stoneware TAVERN MUG, circa 1780 :
$330.75

A beautifully potted saltglazed stoneware half-pint beer mug, the lower half with a beige \'slip\' and the top with a rich dark brown ferruginous wash; London, circa 1780.

This gorgeous little mug is superbly potted with fine bands of turning at the top and bottom of the cylindrical body. The handle is of compressed ear shape with the terminal bent away from the body in a sinuous curve.

The mug is approximately 4 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches in diameter at the base. There are a few very minor edge nibbles around the rim and a tight vertical hairline running from the rim down approximately 2 1/2 inches. There is no restoration. Mugs of this early date are very hard to come by in this condition and we think collectors and dealers alike will be delighted to own this beautiful example of English saltglaze.

Good luck with your offer!
