Fantastic antique french violin made by JTL Thibouville-Lamy circa 1910 after Guarneri.

Fineantique french violin made by JTL circa 1910 after Giuseppe Guarneri, 1720. This violin belongs to the best productions of the firm at the time, and is particularly well made and finished. It was made in copy after Guarneri, and originally antiqued to look close to the old italians. The top is made of two parts of spruce and shows regular and narrow grain lines. The back is made of two pieces of a nicely flamed maple, the curl horizontal. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The varnish is of a beautiful orange-brown colour on a golden ground, and entirely original. The Guarneri f holes are finely made.

The violin is in an excellent condition, with just a few repairs on top and upper back, and a deep scratch at the lower left back (not a crack). On the inside back can be found two original JTL labels, one at the left stating \"Copie de I Joseph Guarnerius fecit Cremonae anno 1720 IHS\", and the second one at the left \"Made in France\", showing that it was made for export. The violin was listed at 65 francs in the 1912 catalog, which was rather an important sum at the time violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including new rosewood heart shaped pegs in the baroque style, a rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, the matching endpin, and a rosewood chinrest, a Despiau bridge and Thomastik Dominant new strings set.

The sound is clear and warm, responsive and focused, easy to play, and will bring you what you expect of a french JTL violin!

Lower bouts : 208 mm.
