Description

A VERY NICE 18TH CENTURY NORWICH, CONNECTICUT CANDLESTAND, CIRCA 1770-1785 WITH A FINE CUT CORNER SHAPED TOP AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST SPURRED AND SHAPED CABRIOLE LEGS AND PAD FEET, ALL IN A NICE OLD REFINISH AND NICE OLD PATINA IN MAHOGANY AND CHERY.

This is a classic NORWICH, CONNECTICUT candle stand from the Late 18th century. The single board top had deep cut corners.
It has an elongated baluster shaft with a deep elaborate bottom urn turning.

IT HAS WELL DEFINED NORWICH SHAPED HAND CARVED AND SPURRED cabriole legs which are dovetailed into the shaft and end in bold Queen Anne style feet which retain their original pads.
A CLASSIC STAND IN WONDERFUL CONDITION AND NICE OLD COLOR.

The shaping of the legs and feet are identical to the documented Examples that are in Museums.

The condition is extremely fine.
There are no structural repairs or restorations and all the components are original. The original top and the cleat still retains most of its original hand wrought screws and the only loss is that the top cleat was shifted about 3/8\" for the screws to hold tight, (see photos).
It has a very pleasing old color and patina.
