This is a large and heavy celadon footed jardiniere. It has 8 sides; each main side is decorated with relief decorations highlighted in white and blue. This type of celadon glaze represents the finest of Japanese green glaze - smooth with a subdued gloss, almost like melted candle. It is similar to the finish of certain pieces made during the Chinese Song Dynasty. This glaze is thick; this is quite evident in the inner walls where it is partially applied and in the lower sections where it pooled. There is some sign of use in the bottom well; there is a firing or production flaw (kiln split) on the floor that appears like a crack. Overall, this item is in excellent condition. No chips cracks or repairs. The jardiniere is 9 1/2\" tall; 11\" x 11\" from one side to the other; and 13\" from corner to corner. It weighs at least 14 lbs. This piece bears an impressed mark.
