A stunning signed Fine museum Quality 19th century early Meiji period Netsuke of two frogs on a lotus leaf with lotus flower. Signed Tomoyuki. School of Tomochika. This beautiful netsuke with its two frogs on a curled lotus leaf and delicately carved flower is the work of a supremely accomplished master artist, expertly articulating such features as the beautiful flower petals, the skin on the frogs and the wonderfully expressive little frog faces which lends a sophisticated touch of humour.
Signed in a oval to the base. The himotashi are created naturally in the overlaping stems of the flower and leaf. This rare unusual authentic Netsuke displays a masterful carving style that unquestionably dates it to 19th Century Meiji when fine quality works were produced in substantial quantities by artists in Osaka, Kyoto, and Edo (Tokyo).
A reference to Tomoyuki and his signature may be found on page 1167 of Lazarnicks book and also mentioned in \"Netsuke\" by Neil Davey.
