THIS IS A VICTORIAN ANTIQUE LOCKET OF VERY GENEROUS PREPORTIONS, AN ‘EYE CATCHING’ ITEM OF ANTIQUE JEWELLERY (See 5 Pence and US five cent set in inset picture for size comparisons).
LARGE VICTORIAN GOLD LOCKETS ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND NOW!!! IN THIS CONDITION NEAR IMPOSSIBLE.
The front of this OVAL locket has A LOVELY bright cut engraved leaf design set against a patterned background. At the base is a pretty embellished vacant oval cartouche. The locket has a sturdy gold top holding ring with an inner diameter of 6.5 mm. The reverse side of the locket has a GORGEOUS floral spray to the centre set against patterned background, below the spray is a small vacant shield shaped cartouche. This central design has a fancy patterned banded surround with the edges of the locket having further foliate style engraving with patterned background.
This locket is a LOVELY MELLOW ROSE GOLD COLOUR as often found in 9ct jewellery items from these earlier Victorian years. We have carefully ‘check tested’ the piece and confirm it is \'9ct Gold Back & Front\' category.
(9ct Back & Front is a locket category where the front and back facing panels ONLY are of solid 9ct gold, the internal frame and pullout picture mount and holding rim are not gold. This method of construction was used primarily to achieve greater strength and durability of the locket).
Yes, this locket is in TRULY excellent condition, no dints, indents, bumps or scratches, crisp engraving with lovely polished surfaces throughout. INDEED as confirmation of mint condition the original glass picture covers are still intact 130 plus years later!! SEE picture with original Victorian photos too.
It will offer the new owner many more years safeguarding your most treasured keepsake or photographs. The hinge is sound and firm, the locket opens easily and shuts well with a reassuring “click”. Both sides have purple watered silk insets with original glass covers, these are held secure with picture retaining rim to the right and pullout picture mount to the left side. (Just replace the purple material with your own photos). The locket is firm to the press being made of a thick gage of gold, there is no buckle effect at all when pressed.
