$500.86

A wonderful Pair of petite Meiji period Bronze Onagadori baluster vases with Mixed metal inlay. These stunning vases are delicately signed Hidekuni down the side and have the Nogawa trade mark to the underside. Decorated with roosters sat in the branches of flowering Cherry trees.
The motif on the vases is Onagadori which is a breed of fowl originating in the Kochi prefecture of Japan. The Japanese government designates the breed in Kochi as a Special Natural Monument.
The vases are an exceptional representation of both the long tailed fowl and of decorative Japanese bronze making. Nogawa Noboru\'s studio was founded in 1825 in Kyoto to make fine metalwork during the Meiji era. He participated in international expositions during the beginning in 1893 to the early years of the 20th century, and many of his pieces found their way into foreign collections, his bronze works exhibit the lavish and meticulous detail that hallmark the Meiji period. The rooster motifs are highlighted in Copper, Gold and silver ( iroe takazogan, hirazogan and shishiaibori)
They have a beautiful rich dark patina that compliments the stunning decoration.
