A Peep at the Pixies; or, Legends of the West

A collection of juvenile legends of the West Country written by Mrs. Bray - Christina Rossetti\'s cousin. It is said that these stories inspired Rossetti when writing \'Goblin Market\', meant to be called \'Stories of the Pixies of Cornwall and Devonshire\' but later changed to avoid confusion. With hand coloured tissue guarded illustrations by Hablot K. Browne (Phiz.)

Half brown sprinkled calf binding with marbled boards, five raised bands with blind tooling to each side, gilt decoration & red title label with gilt lettering between bands, blind ruling to marbled boards, silk head & tail bands and all edges gilt. Fine binding by J. S. Fellowes with his ticket pasted to bottom of rear endpaper and original cover by John Leighton bound in at the rear, all in fine and clean condition. Foxing, light marks, thumbing and a few pages with corner creases. A couple of page blocks raised but overall still very good.
