We are pleased to offer for sale a rare and unusual Chinese Rootwood Scholar\'s Side Table.
Tables of this form were loved by the literati of the Ming and Qing Dynasties for both their naturalistic form and the representational shapes which can be seen within the wood. This table is particularlydesirablebecause of it\'s large size and three tiers. It is right at home between two Chinese chairs or under a fabulous Chinese painting. The tiers can be used to display scholarly objects, porcelain, or bronzes - and it makes for a very stunning statement. This is the first example that we\'ve seen in-person, and we\'re excited to be able to offer it online.
Please look at the images - shapes like a lizard can very clearly be seen throughout the piece.
The table is in good display condition. The wood is extremely hard and the piece is very heavy. We have more photos - if desired, please message us.
