A Rare Pair of Mid 18th Century Mechanical Brass Candlesticks, by Geo. Grove.:
$1044.02

Sectionally constructed from wrought and cast brass - the original vertical seams are clearly visible to the shafts, (picture 6).
The ogee moulded, stepped, square bases rise through a series of baluster type embellishments to form the capitals at the upper most extremes. An internal threaded mechanism to the shaft of each candlestick, controlled by a wing-nut from below, originally lifted the \'ejector\' within the capitals. The mechanisms are currently seized, (I have not attempted to \'free\' the actions). One wing-nut has at some time lot the two grip sections - see picture 8.
Both examples are clearly stamped with the maker\'s name, \"GEO. GROVE\" - see final two pictures.Size: overall height - 7 1/2\" (190mm).
Total weight - 759 grams, (401g + 358g).
The overall condition is good, (as described and allowing for nut and seized mechanisms). Wear and surface marks consistent with genuine age and usage. Fine natural colour and patina.
