A very rare and authentic shunga netsuke dated from early 19th C/Edo period . Shunga Netsuke: Okame & Tengu Mask

A subtle humor permeates this netsuke carved with Okame standing atop a Tengu mask with \"phallic nose\". A very high quality carving with hidden erotic motive,dark brown stain with a tactile quality in the smooth and glossy surface, engraving with sumi, brown/black pigment in the hair lines and foliate motifs of the robe. A Shunga sign to the bottom. A very unique netsuke of a Goddess of Mirth with a Tengu demon mask with his gigantic nose, which she is fondling with a dreamy look, perhaps pondering what use may be made of it, while despite his glaring disapproval the Tengu is quite please to be loved.
