An extremely fine octagonal silver salver by the specialist salvermaker RobertAbercromby,with cast and applied moulding with shellform decoration. The central plate with a band of floral and foliate engraving. The centre withan ornamental arabesque. The whole standing on fourhoof feet.
Clearly marked for London 1740 by Robert Abercromby.
This is an exceptionally fine salverin the very finest originalcondition. No sign of any damage or repair and no erasure. Made,as wereall hissalvers,ofvery goodrobust gauge silver. The hallmarks clearly struck as is the scratch weight.Some wearto the makers mark, or more probably slightly misstruck. Stands flat upon a table top. Very minor signs of use. Very fine colour and patina . A Very good example of this exceptionally important maker\'ssilversmithing.
