Description: (LARGE PICTURES BELOW)

A very unusual Aesthetic movement (1870-1890) ceramic dish or plate, rectangular in form, with a hand tinted colour transfer print of an oriental Japanese scene ofa woman (i presume)in traditional costume with a parasolcollecting wateramongst the reeds near a lake with mountains in the back ground.

Possiblyfrom aChristopher Dresser design once one looks at the geometric patterns around the edgebut factory unknown as piece is unmarked apart from the recorded shape and registration number design (can be looked up) and an impressed 5 which could be a mould marks. I have seen other pieces in this styleand period made by Wedgewoodand Mintonand indeed Dresser did design ceremic pieces forboth these companies.

It is known that having visited Japan, Dressers design became very influencedbyJapanese aesthetic and everyday scenes.

Condition: Item has very minor use and age related surface wear with no chips orcracks or glaze loss. There is a bit of discolouring to the underside and very small amount of wear to the transfer print. Some some loss the gold plating around the edge rim. Overall in seemingly very good condition for age.
