AMAZING C 1876 FOLK ART PRIMITIVECENTENNIAL DOLL IN 1776 COLONIAL OUTFIT CARVED WOOD HEAD ARMS LEGS

THIS FANTASTIC DOLL WAS FOUND IN AN ESTATE IN NEW YORK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE DOLL WAS MADE IN THE 18TH CENTURY BUT AFTER VISITING THE MEMORIAL MUSEUM IN DEERFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, THEY HAD A DOLL VERY SIMILAR TO THIS DATING TO 1873 BY A VERMONT DOLL MAKER.

BASED ON THE 1776 STYLE COLONIAL OUTFIT OF THE DOLL, I BELIEVE THIS WAS DONE FOR THE 1876 CENTENNIAL. THE DOLL HAS A COAT, UNDERSHIRT, BREECHES, AND BUTTONS.

I BELIEVE THE HEAD, ARMS, AND LEGS ARE CARVED WOOD WITH EITHER PAINT OR SOME MACHE TYPE MATERIAL OVER IT.

AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE PHOTOS, AND PLEASE STUDY THEM CLOSELY, THIS DOLL HAS A LOT OF WEAR, LOSS, AND DAMAGE. THERE IS LOSS TO THE FINGERS, TOES, LEG, RIPS AND LOSS OT THE CLOTHING, ETC. OVERALL FOR WHAT IT IS, IT\'S AN AMAZING RARITY THAT THIS PIECE SURVIVES.

THE PIECE IS ATTACHED TOA WOOD BASE, I BELIEVE LATER IN ITS LIFE. THE DOLL ALONE MEASURES AROUND AROUND 8 1/4 INCHES TALL.
