WOW ,,,Exceptional Draping and Fluidity of Movement...Captivating Design
The dress .... shows brilliance & expertise in the fine art of draping, style & design. Constructed by using the “BIAS CUT” method which essentially allows the fabric to wrap around and literally mold to the curves of a women’s body creating that PERFECT Feminine Silhouette!! So very flattering having a long sleek appearance as the skirting drapes into a flowing sweep of sinuous folds.
DRESS is made from sheer red silk chiffon fabric ~ Slip on or pull over entry this dress has no closures or hardware ~ Gathering detail at bust ~ The front of dress has a high and wide across neckline that drapes like a cowl neck would ~ Plunging “V” low cut in back that criss-crosses or surpliced at waist seam ~ Sleeveless w/hand rolled sewn seaming around armholes ~ It is sheer and unlined and would have been worn over a silk slip dress underneath ~ Gathered shoulder seam detail with inside baby snaps to hold straps of slip dress underneath ~ Bottom hem is rounded and drapes about 5-7” longer in back ~ Designer is unknown as there are no attached labels ~ Empire or high waist cut w/stylized under bust seaming coming to a point between bust.

~ Condition of Dress ~
Consideringthe age of this spectacular dress, it is inFANTASTIC Vintage Antique Condition! THIS DRESS IS NEARLY100 YEARS OLD so naturallyithas comes with some minor wear issues. Overall the silk chiffon fabric is in wonderful condition.
There are NO rips or tears and I did not notice any discolorations or staining. Seams/threading throughout are good and strong and intact!! Only around right side armhole the hand rolled seaming has started to “unroll” with a few loose threads visible.
The hemline is finished with very tight sewn piping along edge as is commonly done with silk chiffon or similar fabric. At VERY VERY CLOSE inspection there are a few tiny breaks in thread but is so minor and at all noticeable that it shouldn’t cause any problems when wearing nor need any immediate repair attention.
Mostly located near bottom skirting are several tiny pinholes…I didn’t even notice them and still can’t unless held up to light and at very close inspection. This is common in dresses of this age & fabric and does NOT affect the overall brilliance and exceptional beauty of this dress.
I would have to say, the most damage is the three (3) silk chiffon flower located at back side waistline…. I do not know what they looked like in their original state but judging by the stunning design and exceptional construction of this dress I can only imagine the flowers must have been big, beautiful & dramatic!!! But now….droopy with several missing silk chiffon petals. Would be easy and FUN to replacement with new flowers or other accessory! Yay J This fantastic seductive dress is structurally solid and wearable!
I posted several pictures....including super zoom close-up.....in several different settings and lighting ~ inside, outside, with flash and without~ for your careful inspection.
Also, I listed some realistic & creative alternative options as follows:
1. The dress can be used in parts…. making a beautiful skirt or top and using the extra fabric to fix minor holes or tears or make a whole new panel
2.This historical dress would make a perfect template or reference for 1930’s bias cut patternmaking
3.Or do what I do and just hang on a painted wall and display as you would a painting….beautiful piece of textile ART.
