Beautiful gilt finished figural bookends in the shape of an ancient Greek Winged Sphinx, a mythical creature with the head of a woman, body of a lion and wings of an eagle, done in a French Empire style. These vintage sculptural bookends are made of a solid composition material with a rich gold finish. Each Sphinx is sculpted with excellent detail, from the classical headdress to the upturned feathered wings to the powerful lion\'s paws. Each is identical, standing 10\" tall by 6.5 \" across on a 6\" by 3.25\" base covered in green felt underneath, and each weighs 3.25 lbs. There are no maker\'s marks I can see.
