A superb quality antique Victorian silver plated (EPNS) tea kettle on stand, with original burner, manufactured by Robert Pringle circa 1880.
The kettle is of half reeded decoration, with S shaped handle supports leading to a turned ebony handle. The lid also has an ebony finial. The stand has locking mechanisms at each end, allowing the kettle to be firmly attached, or opened at one end for pouring. It features fine ribbed edges and legs leading to four shell shaped feet. The burner stand houses the original burner with wick.
The kettle bears the makers mark to the base RP for Robert Pringle, the crossed axe mark, and an L for London. It also bears the pattern number 1140 and 3G.
In 1899 Robert Pringle (II) took in partnership hiseldest son Robert Pringle (III) and the firm changed to Robert Pringle &Sons. In 1907 Robert Pringle (II) died, and Robert Pringle(III) was joined in partnership by his brothers William, James and Edwin. The firm was converted into a limitedliability company in 1931, under the style of Robert Pringle & Sons (London) Ltd.
