ANTIQUE 20thC GEORGIAN STYLE SOLID SILVER ARGYLE / ARGYLL, HEMING, LONDON c.1907
Antique 20th Century very rare Solid Silver Georgian style Argyle, decorated with applied borders, decorative vase-shaped finial and a wicker bound handle. Designed with internal surrounding section into which hot water was poured to keep the gravy hot. Argyles supposedly conceived in the mid-18th Century by one of the Dukes of Argyle who disliked cold gravy. The wicker handle is insulated to prevent the hands from burning and the spout rests at the bottom of the bowl, ensuring that the liquid goodness of the gravy pours out ahead of the fatty layer on top. Argyles are rare and very collectible. All parts Hallmarked English Silver (925 standard), London, year 1907 (m), Maker's mark JH&Co (Joseph Heming & Co).
