FEATURED: One of the most amazing antique Chinese Art Deco Walter Nichols rugs, this exotic pictorial beauty is absolutely stunning, with its wisteria flowered vines across the top, its birds, gorgeous pine branches, and flowers along the sides, and its beautiful Chinese planters filled with flowering plants, tall chinese carved stands with flowering pots , and its center table at its bottom, filled with chinese table screens and a lamp, and a glass container with flowering narcissus in pebbles underneath. Then there are those fabulous blue-green emerald, pumpkin, pink, etc. colors, as only the Nichols Company did so many decades ago in Tientsin, China; Nichols called his rugs the \"Super Chinese Rug\", and what an understatement that was and is. Complete with its original short fringe, and very minor age-related wear, this is something you will not find again in your lifetime. Nichols also custom designed rugs for individuals, and we believe this was one of them, created for someone who wanted a pictorial scene of colorful elegance and filled with his/her favorite plants, flowers and Chinese decorative garden objects. A beautiful painting of a Chinese garden room, hand-woven in wool and so beautiful on any floor in any decor. One can see why these have been, and even more so today, so very desirable to own.
The Nichols Rug Company, started in 1924, set the bar for high quality beautifully and brightly colored thick wool rugs, done in mostly stylized Deco designs but also in more traditional patterns. They stated they had over 800-plus variations of colors and shades to choose from, selected, spun and dyed their own wool, then the rugs were hand-knotted and woven by adult weavers, and designed their own rugs (or created custom-design rugs with ideas from buyers), using ancient Chinese symbols and designs along with Western style Art Deco influences to create stunning rugs with dynamic stylized designs and those wild Deco vibrant color groups. Nichols Rugs are synonymous with high quality, long-lasting beautiful, distinctively luscious one of a kind rugs, such as this magnificent item.
Measures: 8 feet,10 inches X 11 feet, 8 inches, hand-knotted and woven, made of Chinese wool, dates to early 1920\'s Deco era, made in Tientsin, China at the Walter Nichols Company. Some minor age-related wear, one small spot noted, from non-smoking, non-pet home with no apparent insect problems noted. Great thick weight and heft, and possibly a custom-designed item due to its elaborate designs, colors and details.
