Up for sale is an early antique Georgian Bilston enamel box with an inscription reading, \"May Nature Paint the Cheek and Virtue the Mind\". This is an early example that has a steel mirror inside which is in good condition for its age with some oxidation. The box in general is in overall very good condition and presents very well. The top looks very good with clear and crisp transfer printing. The pink enamel looks pretty good except for one old repair on the front left-of-center foot - visible in the images. The interior looks good. There is an old label on the Interior bottom from D.M.&P. Manheim gallery.
The box measures approximately: 1-5/8\"L X 1-1/4\"W X 7/8\"H.

From a Los Angeles estate, Iwill be offering a very large collection of Antique enamel boxes. These were collected by the mother of theprevious owner – thus mostly purchased in the early part of the 20thcentury. Many of the pieces still carrytheir “D.M.&P. Manheim” label – for Emily (Millie), and her brothers Davidand Peter – the Manheim gallery was a very well known gallery in New York specializingin English pottery and enamels, and Millie Manheim was a highly respectedscholar and dealer in her time.
