This is a long wood walking/hiking stick with a 1890 English Birmingham hallmarked sterling silver handle/knob with repetitive links & curvilinear designs on the rim & shaft. The maker\'s mark (worn) & hallmarks are impressed above the lower rim. The sterling silver knob is 1 1/2 inches at the widest 1 3/4 inches high. The walking stick including the knob & the birch hardwood shaft (which is a replacement - & probably not the first considering the age of the knob) is 44 inches long, slightly greater than 1 inch in diameter and about 3 2/3 inches in circumference and is capped with a black tip. The sticks color is medium brown and there is a medium gloss finish. The stick is very sturdy – thus it can be used by a large/heavy/tall person or in the rugged back-country. The top of the knob has several creases from use over the years...my low opening price reflects these defects. Prompt payment will ensure this item arrives before Christmas (at least in the USA).
