ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN POINT DE GAZE LACE HANDMADE Lappet MUSEUM Collector:
$49.90

Absolutely Stunning Point de Gaze Lace appliqué or lappet. Measures approximately 8 inches x 5 inches. These were used on a Victorian wedding gown. Beautiful to use on a bodice or to decorate or restore (cover fabric damage) on a Victorian or Edwardian gown. It would be lovely as a focal piece on Normandy lace as well. The applique for sale had darkened into an Ecru color due to age. I am selling it as it.On the photo, I also showed a similar piece after it soaked a piece in distilled water overnight. As you can see the linen lightened up to a beautiful ivory. If you\'d rather have the soaked piece, send a message. I\'ve spent hours and hours studying this (I am a lace novice), and I believe this was repurposed or \"up-cycled\" in the late 1800s or from something a larger piece of lace. This was part of a museum collection and the appliqués were removed from a Victorian gown. One of the pieces including a 42 inch train of what was likely created by hand sewing the lappets into larger ones, then sewing those together. I am not certain, but each lappet or applique, including 2 larger ones I purchased seem to have been created from what\'s believe was an older piece of lace. The handwork wherein the lappets are sewn together down the middle with excruciatingly tiny perfect hand stiches is so fine, it is hard to see with even with 30X jeweler\'s loupe. I tried to upload some close up photos I took.If you can zoom in enough, you may be able to see that the lappet is created from two pieces of lace hand sewn with stiches so fine they are practically invisible to the eye. The same pattern is on all the lappets, as well as smaller appliques. The cut work is smaller on the 8 inch lappets, and larger ones wherein 7 were sewn together to create a 42 inch train of in the same pattern as the one for sale. IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR, PLEASE SEND A MESSAGE IF YOU ATE INTERESTED AND I WILL SEND AN EMAIL WITH A HIGHER RESOLUTION PHOTO, AS WELL AS PHOTO OF THE LARGER PIECE.This is the finest lace I\'ve ever seen. It must\'ve been made for a duchesse perhaps royalty, or a Great Lady at the very least. Just Gorgeous. If you\'re not happy, you\'re welcome to return for a full refund, as long as it\'s in the same condition it was in when I sent it out.:) It was previously exhibited in a New York Textile Exhibit ( Brooklyn Museum, I believe. ) Feel free to ask questions. I\'ll also be listing some antique ribbonwork, and other types of laces, including a very old
piece of Mechlin from the 1850s and a 1930s bridal cap with ribbon work. It may be spring 2015 by the time I get around to it. :).
Thanks for looking.
