Up for sale is a private estate owned Moai Kava Kava \"Easter Island / Rapa Nui\" Style hardwood male carving.
CONFIRMED WITH PREVIOUS OWNER Carving was purchased in 1973 in Santiago, Chile, in a curio shop.
Carving was advertised as Toromiro wood at that time
It stands 28\" high and weighs 10 lbs.
Hardwood is not confirmed, but statue is heavy, it does have a prominent grain, with a definite rose (or reddish) color.

This grisly style of carving was a cultural reminder of the last days of the old clan warfare on the Island,before the arrival of the whites (1500s era), when starvation and cannibalismhad become the institutionalized norm due to the Environmental and subsequentsocietal collapse. These skeletal, hand-carved Moai of this eerie type are animportant part of island tradition, with its grinning deaths-head style with long ear lobes, swirled hair-do, andprotruding rib cage with backbone showing prominantly on this otherwise nakedRapa Nui Native. Areas with cracks are photographed and shown, and described as follows - there is a crack on the top of the head which goes down the back of skull and all the way to the buttocks, running along the spine, there is a crack down the right side of face, a small one on the left side of neck and left ribcage, also, down the front chest, and right side ribcage and stomach. There are a few nicks here and there with age, but overall the piece is in wonderful condition.We have tried to describe to the best of our ability, with no intent to misrepresent this piece.
