Antique pre-revolutionary Imperial Russia sugar sifter. Made by Orest Fedorovich Kurliukov, Workmaster. Hallmarked with his name, m.u. stamp, and assayer\'s purity stamp 84, the mark for Russian sterling silver.

Kurliukov was the owner of a gold and silver factory active in Moscow between 1884 and 1918. A contemporary and collaborator of works with Carl Peter Faberge, Kurliukov most notably supplied silver and gold household goods and treasures to the Romanov family (among others) of Czar Nicholas II in the years prior to the Bolshevik Russian Revolution.

Kurliukov won commissions from Tiffany in New York, and in Moscow, he received the Minister\'s Medal of Honour in 1895.

Kurliukov items are usually sold through notable international sale houses, such as Sotheby\'s and Christies.

The spoon measures 6\" long, with the bowl of the spoon measuring 2\" across. The handle has been monogrammed with the initials

A L R, with the R being in the centre of the monogram, indicating the surname. The inside of the pierced bowl of the spoon shows the faint remnant of gold wash. Heavy for its size, this is solidly made.
