This is an antique Japanese tea or sake pot known as a Choshi. It is made of cast iron and has an overall \"hail pellet\" design (see pictures 6 & 7). The raised pellets of iron allowed the contents to stay warm much longer. Its brass handle is hollow for added insulation when using hot liquid. The lid has a top finial of red coral in the shape of a chrysanthemum blossom flower bud (see picture 9). Having been in storage for over a century, withexceptionto an aged patina,it remains in fine condition.

It has a long spout (see last picture) which aided in pouring hot sake into the typically small sakazuki (sake cup). It has a tri-pod base (see pictures 11) for level standing.

It measures 6\" (15 cm) in diameter not including the spoutby 4\" tall (10 cm ) not including the handle. 7 1/2\" tall (19 cm) with the handle). It holds about 1 liter of hot or cold liquid. That\'s a lot of sake!
