Antique scrimshawed Civil War era bovine bone poker chipset. Each chip was hand turned on alathe, polished, and individually hand engraved on both sides. Each took about an hour or more to craft fromstart to finish. 218 chips total. 108 chips bearing a “Club†symbol, 73 bearinga “5â€, and 37 chips scrimmed with a “25â€. These are all handmade chips circa1865 in craftsmanship. There are nocracks in the chip centers. A few chipswill have a slight hairline crack in the rim (see photo). The red dye on the rims of the $5 chips israther worn on most. The tan dyed rimson the $25’s are in general very nice. The black scrimshawed portion is verynice on most pieces. These chips average $35-$40 each piece on . ÂIncluded free are 6 Civil war era playingcards in excellent condition. A royalflush I might add. 2 decks of Civil war replica cards are included. All are ensconced in a fancy lacquered exoticwood case with inlaid brass fittings and a velveteen lining. This type chip set was the best and mostluxurious of its day. Productiondwindled well before the turn-of-the-century as the industrial revolutionbrought about new materials and less expensive production techniques. ACOMPLETE playing set such as this is RARE to the EXTREME. Sets are so unusual that they bring a premiumprice akin to their rarity. A very difficult prize to find for that discerningcollector.
