Another piece from the estate of antique Chinese furniture. This is a rare piece of carved lacquer (on wood)called tixi. Carved with a pommel scroll motif. Red and black carved. This technique began inthe Song dynasty and lasted all the way to the sixteenth century. This Chinese altar is marked with a archaic script seal. I believe this is the Yongle period of the Ming dynasty seals. (Please if you are an expert of Chinese seals please write in and let me know.) Absolutely made in Chinese and an antique.Two drawers. Black lacquer on back and on bottom and inside the drawers. All hand carvedon top, on sides, in front and on legs. Legs are Ming style.
