A beautiful antique Russian Orthodox Christian icon with the image of JESUS CHRIST. Hand painted on a wooden board. Circa late 1800s. I believe this icon dates from 1860s to 1870s. The depiction of Christ is standard for that time period. The pose of Christ includes his left hand resting on a globe sim olivine the world. The pose was changed in the 1870s with the globe being replaced by an open book of Gospels the Christ is holding in his left hand. Inscriptions in old Slavonic church language. Some paint loss as shown on pictures. There is a small area of paint loss in the background over Christ’s right shoulder. This could be easily touched up. No evidence ofrestoration. Comes with a modern custom made frame. Size with a frame 14\" x 12 1/4\". Size of the image is 10\" x 8 1/4\". Original antique store gallery label is on the back. Originally purchased in Germany. Weight without packaging is 2 lb 1.4 oz which explains the cost of shipping including insurance according to the USPS website.
